Soft sprinkle cookies are such a fun and delicious treat for everyone! They remind me of muffin top cookies with a burst of flavor. Another lovely reason to make these cookies is that they are ready in under 3o minutes! As long as you have room temperature butter, you can whip these cookies and enjoy in a flash!
I grew up eating homemade soft sprinkle cookies my mom used to make. She would put chocolate sprinkles on and it to me, it was a plate full of childhood happiness. I want to share that joy I experienced as a child with you. This recipe is an adapted version of my mom’s sprinkle cookies. They are great for adults, as well as, kids. Soft sprinkle cookies are also a great treat to make if your hosting birthday parties, or taking the to one. My children devour these sweet treats and I hope yours will too!
I have made this recipe countless times until I reached the flavors and texture I have envisioned. There are specific steps I have with the order of mixing your ingredients. Make sure to follow those steps.
Does Baking Soda Need to be Activated when Baking?
YES! Baking soda needs to be activated when baking. Baking soda should be mixed with an acidic ingredient to be properly activated. When baking soda is mixed with an acid, it produces a chemical reaction. This chemical reaction releases carbon dioxide gas which allows that your baked goods rise.
For the soft sprinkle cookies, we mix baking soda with sour cream and it becomes bubbly and fluffy. We then add this to the remainder of the wet ingredients.
Using High Quality Ingredients to Bake Cookies
As always you all know how much I value using high quality ingredients in all of my baking endeavors. I take this step very serious, and so one of the ingredients that I went out of my way to find is good quality, dye free sprinkles. If I am using sprinkles, they need to be chemical and dye free without synthetic ingredients. Same rule applies to the chocolate sprinkles I use. The chocolate in chocolate sprinkles need to be made of REAL cacao. For healthy sprinkle cookies, I used these colored sprinkles. For the chocolate sprinkles, I used this one. They have dark and milk chocolate options. Choose the one to your liking.
Do Soft Sprinkle Cookies Need to Chill in the Fridge?
They do not. Once you mix all your ingredients for the cookies, you bake them right away. They will be ready in minutes!
