Burger Buns You Will Want to Make Over and Over Again

Best Burger Buns Recipe

I am not kidding when I say these are the burger buns you will want to make over and over again! They are pillow-y soft, full of flavor, and come together beautifully with just a few ingredients.

I have searched high and low for healthy burger buns, and although a few grocery brand come close, none seem to meet the high standards of having clean ingredients AND tasting phenomenal. In other words, they just didn’t wow me.

Clean ingredients are so important, and if you are, or working towards, being a conscious eater, you must make these buns.

Most buns, or any store-bought bread/pastry for that matter, are full of seed oils, preservatives, and other harmful ingredients. When I want a burger, I don’t want to feel bad for eating one, or 2!

How to Make Easy Homemade Burger Buns

You can make the dough for the burger buns either by hand or in a dough mixer. I rave about this dough mixer all the time, and it truly is quite worth the investment, if it is something you have been thinking about.

To make the dough for the burger buns, you simply add yeast, flour, water, eggs, butter, salt, and a tiny bit of sugar. See below for step by step instructions. If you are not using a dough mixer, you can knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes. If you are using the dough mixer, you let the mixer knead the dough for 6-8 minutes.

Once your dough doubles in size, the rest of the steps require very little hands on time. You simply cut and shape the dough into 8 round balls, then let is have a second (shorter) rise, and bake!

Honestly, this recipe is too good NOT to share and it too easy NOT to try!

Once everything is ready to bake, you make and gently brush eggwash on top of each dough and sprinkle sesame seeds.

I can’t wait until you make and share pictures with me. Don’t forget to tag me on instagram @cookwithrips.

Enjoy!

For Eggwash
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tsp Milk
Garnish
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds Use as needed

Equipment

  • 1 Dough Mixer *or you can be kneaded by hand

Method

  1. In a small bowl, add warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir and let it the yeast activate for 10 minutes or until it looks foamy.
  2. Next, in your dough mixer, or a large bowl, add flour, 1 egg, salt, and melted and cooled butter.
  3. Once your yeast mixture is activated, add it to the flour mixture and knead on the dough mixer for 6-8 minutes, or 10 minutes if kneading by hand.
  4. Dough should be slightly tacky and not stick to the sides of the bowl.
  5. Grease a large bowl with avocado oil and place the dough in the bowl, then flip to ensure both sides are covered in oil. Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel or saran wrap. Set aside to rest for 1 hour and 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the dough onto a counter and gently shape into a rectangle. You can use a rolling pin, just be careful not to press to hard.
  7. Next, cut the dough roughly into 8 equal shapes. Pinch the ends to seal each dough and roll (seam side down) to create a smooth ball.
  8. Repeat this step until all 8 pieces of dough are shaped. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rest for 1 hour.
  9. Meanwhile, make the egg wash, whisk 1 egg and 2 tsp of milk. Set aside.
  10. Preheat oven to 375℉. Place the dough onto a large baking sheet and gently brush each dough with egg wash.
  11. Sprinkle sesame seeds on each dough and bake at 375℉ *(See Note) for 15 minutes or until the tops of the buns are golden brown.

Notes

Since each oven is a little different, oven temperatures and baking time will vary.
