A Simple Crowd Pleasing Bruschetta Recipe
If you are wondering how to wow your guests with delicious appetizer using only a few simple ingredients, you have come to the right place! Today I am going to share my bruschetta recipe with you, but before I do, did you know that the proper way to pronounce bruschetta is not “brushetta” it’s “brus-ketta”?
Bruschetta is a popular Italian appetizer from the 15th century and is traced back to Ancient Rome*. Bruschetta comes from the Roman word bruscare, and the Italian word abbrustolire which means “to toast”. During Anceint Rome, olive growers used to bring samples of their freshly pressed olive oil on a slice of bread to their local olive press.

Making bruschetta is a fun, no cook way to make something healthy and delicious. One thing that will really make your bruschetta game strong is choosing delicious tomatoes. Tomatoes are usually in season in the summer so keep that in mind too when looking for good quality tomatoes. It really does make a difference.
Recommended type of tomatoes
In my recipe, I use an heirloom tomato and add a few dark red baby tomatoes. I get this beautiful deep dark red color and it looks so pretty on bread. I dice the tomatoes to as small as I can (about 1/4 in thick). I also use thai basil because I love the intense, distinct flavor it brings to the table.
What type of bread should I use with bruschetta?
For the bread, you can use your favorite kind. I like to use a fresh baguette bread, it easily cuts into the shape I want and is the perfect portion. You can also use french bread or a sourdough baguette. I do recommend toasting the bread as I have included in the instructions because the bruschetta can get juicy and could make the bread too soggy. If you see too much juice coming out of the bruschetta, you can simply drain it (or drink it, it’s so good!) before adding to your bread.
Let’s make this deliciousness so you can sit down with some good group of friends, your favorite beverage, and make some wonderful memories!
| Prep Time: 10 minutes | Cook Time: 4 minutes (to toast the bread) |
| Serves: 3-4 | Total Time: 14 minutes |
| Ingredients 1 medium heirloom tomato (1 1/2 cup chopped) 3-4 dark red cherry tomatoes 3-4 medium sized garlic cloves (about 2 tsp minced) + 1 whole garlic clove sliced in half 1 1/2 tbsp finely chopped Thai basil leaves (save 1/2 tbsp for garnishing the top) 1/2 tsp sea salt flakes (these are my favorite) 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil + about a tbsp more for drizzling on bread 1 tsp balsamic vinegar 1 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese 1/2 tsp black pepper 7 slices of baguette bread |

| Instructions 1. Finely mince the garlic and basil, add them both to a small bowl and set aside. 2. Chop the tomatoes and add to a large bowl, then add, the sea salt, black pepper, grated Parmesan, extra virgin olive oil, and balsamic vinegar and stir. 3. Add the garlic and basil to the tomato mixture and stir once again then set aside. 4. Drizzle each slice of baguette bread with olive oil and toast one side of the bread (with the olive oil side facing down) on a pan with medium heat for about 4 minutes or until crispy to your desire. 5. Brush a little bit of the sliced garlic on each bread and gently scoop bruschetta onto each bread (careful not to get too much of the tomato juice on the bread) BON APPETITE! |
