Easy and Healthier Pigs in a Blanket
This savory pigs in a blanket recipe is not only extremely tasty, it is also very quick and easy to whip up! These are great as game day appetizers, hosting appetizers, or any day snacks!
I bet you have seen dozens of pigs in a blanket recipes. What you can depend on when I bring my recipes to the table is thoughtfully sought out high quality ingredients with the least amount of processed ingredients.
In my version of pigs in a blanket we will use food with ingredients we can pronounce. This applies to pre-made dough.
Is pre-made frozen dough healthy?
That all depends. Here’s what to look for anytime you purchase pre-made dough. Make sure there are NO seed oils what-so-ever in the ingredient of your premade dough. We do not want any oils for frozen dough. What we do want is real butter or cream. We also do NOT want a little butter with a little seed oil, no thank you. We want ALL butter or ALL cream. This is critical!
If you want to know more on why I avoid seed oils more than I avoid anything else, be sure to check out Dr. Catherine Shanahan’s Book called “Deep Nutrition” Her book changed me forever, in a good way!
So with that said, in today’s recipe we will be using Dufour Pastry Kitchen’s puff pastry. This incredible brand brings you the cleanest puff pastry ingredients on the market! It has only 5 ingredients with one being water, and yes, you can pronounce them all!
Currently, this is the ONLY puff pastry brand I purchase. My wish is more companies start eliminating seed oils in frozen puff pastry dough and using Dufour as gauge on what good ingredients look like.
For the cocktail wieners, opt for grass fed or organic wieners that are uncured, nitrate/nitrite free. If good quality is important to you, ensuring high quality ingredients for the pigs in a blanket recipe will have you feeling good about the healthier options you decide to cook and eat.
This recipe is ready in under 30 minutes AND requires only 3 INGREDIENTS. It’s also a perfect snack, game day appetizers, or a quick snack for all to enjoy!. I hope you try it with my suggested ingredients and genuinely notice the difference in taste.
